Komensky Elementary serves preschool to grade 5 school and includes a dual language program in grades K–1 and bilingual classrooms in grades 2–3. Special needs students are integrated into classrooms alongside their peers. One-to-one iPad is available for each student, with 24/7 access, and every teacher has a MacBook and iPad.
Komensky houses the district’s elementary Developmental Learning Program (DLP) that serves students who have moderate to severe disabilities. Students in this program use technology as their primary tool to communicate, demonstrate learning, and access curriculum through the accessibility features on iPad. Students in the DLP program who are mute use iPad as their sole communication tool — literally their voice.
Teachers use a wide range of technology resources, including programs to individualize instruction and meet the needs of all learners. Students are free to learn in flexible environments and collaborate with each other using a wide range of apps. Students may extend their learning over the summer by participating in Virtual Summer School that uses Apple technology and video conferencing.
